Intra-personal Intelligence (Self Smart)

by: M . Almukhayzim

There are several concepts for intelligence depending on the multiplicity of functions and many its constituents. Dr. Howard Gardner has identified eight intelligences and proposed a ninth that he is currently researching: the Existential Intelligence. My type of intelligence is Intra-personal Intelligence (Self Smart).

Intra-personal Intelligence (Self Smart) is one of the nine intelligence. It is the capacity to understand oneself and one’s thoughts and feelings, and to use such knowledge in planning and derationing one’s life.  Intra-personal intelligence involves not only an appreciation of the self, but also of the human condition.  It is evident in psychologist, spiritual leaders, and philosophers.  These young adults may be shy. They are very aware of their own feelings and are self-motivated. For example for Persons with Intrapersonal Intelligence: Eleanor Roosevelt, Plato, Helen Keller and Joan of Arc.

This is also true for me. I am always setting my goals. I am thinking about what I want? and I am planning about how I can get that I want. I have self- confidence which make me to go ahead and to face difficulties. In addition, I have full independence in my thought. For example, I have ability to make decisions and to solve my problems.

In conclusion, self smart people are comfortable with themselves and are knowledgeable about their strengths and weaknesses because they do self-reflection. They may like to be by themselves to think through a problem. They may daydream about their future, keep goals both short-term and long-term to accomplish, and try to do things to grow as a person. For me I often understand myself, and I try to improve myself. Actually, I feel so happy when I make something amazing.
